About DIDestination Imagination’s aim is to give an opportunity to children and teenagers to express their creative abilities, team building skills, and problem solving abilities. In this project, our aim was to help our students improve their creative abilities by letting them write their own stories together with each student saying one sentence at a time, improve their team spirit by giving them challenges that involve building towers out of certain materials given, and certain challenges that are directed towards problem solving abilities. There are also performance based challenges, which include challenges that involve story writing, improvisation, and drama. With these challenges, we saw every student become more comfortable with their teammates, get involved with their creative side, and learn how to produce innovative ideas. Before coming to Merzifon and starting to work with students, we were expecting to be able to play every game and do every activity connected with imagination in class but when we started DI classes we realized that teaching is not as easy as it seems from outside. It requires a huge amount of effort and interest just like every other thing that leads to success. As time passed we started to learn how to communicate better with each other and adapt to one another. We learned how to draw their attention and keep them focused on the activities. Our favourite part of this project was to communicate and meet with other students from a different part of a Turkey. When we first planned our schedule we weren’t expecting students to be this creative and talented but they turned out much better. For example, when we first wanted them to build a tower using different objects, they did very well and all teams found different and unique ways to build their towers. Also the story telling games we played showed the creativity that they have. At the end of the project, we saw how students improved themselves using creativity which was our primary vision. |
