Importance of sportsIn this one week program we as the Merzifon CIP aimed to teach middle school kids(more specifically 5,6 and 7th graders) English and Technology through Drama, DI, Sports and Music. By integrating STEM based curriculum with the use of 3 Scratch books gifted to every student we were able to introduce kids to basics of computer programming and game development. In addition to every other REKANEP CIP project conducted by RC student, what makes Merzifon CIP special is the aspect of sustainability. By providing books that kids could use to push further their programming skills we aimed to teach kids how to fish rather than providing cooked ones. Some of the kids even came to us the next day we’ve distributed the books and asked about the relevant content provided in the book. Their enthusiasm to participate in sessions regarding STEM motivated us to work tirelessly. Our will to teach combined with their participation will certainly contribute to the development of our society, creating a better future for all.
Merzifon CIP contains many of the elements that allow students to explore their interests in various subjects. Our aim is to teach topics, from drama to coding, in an amicable and comfortable environment. We believe that the project itself is not only an opportunity to learn different topics, but it is also a great opportunity to form lifelong friendships. To specifically talk about our sub group drama we play many collaborative games in which students are especially motivated to learn more about their friends. It is also very important for us that our students have an opportunity to express themselves therefore we also play games in which our students are primarily focusing on their body movements and how to use them in the best way possible. Our sports subgroup had the privilege to work with many talented, eager, and determined students. Throughout our one week of playing sports, learning about health, and having unlimited fun we have formed friendships that will last for a lifetime. We especially payed attention to fair play and discipline. Sports is one of the most fundamental events in human life. It plays such a central role that we sought physical activities that pushed the limits of athletic abilities since the dark ages. So sports is a very important aspect of our life. So the sports group focused on sports and healthy way of living. We all know how to play basketball or football, but to play as a team requires hard work and collaboration. Experience and education is needed. That’s what we tried to teach. It was amazing when three kids were forming a triangle and passing with a basketball to confuse the opposing team player. They all know how to dribble, they all know how to pass; and now they know why they should pass. Healthy way of eating is as important as doing sports for our health. As sports group we discussed different type of nutrients and how they affect our health, and how much they should be consumed for a healthy living Last but not the least, sports requires fair play. I think we all agreed on how important fairplay is. Sports is an act of friendship at first hand. I hope the respect among the kids during our activities will be an example to the professional sportsmen/women. I believe the kids enjoyed these 5 days as much as I did, All the best, Umut Sport Subgroup Leader |
